Alumni of Mayo College, Ajmer, he has fought insurgency in Nagaland, Manipur, Punjab and J&K. Decorated for gallantry, he had commanded all the troops on the Siachen Glacier from 1995 to 1997 and was thus decorated for his distinguished service in war. He had also commanded all the troops south of the Pir Panjal Range on the Line of Control during Operation Parakram and was also decorated for the same.
